Pinus Pinaster

We are only looking for baby trees or isolated trees not huge plantations like in Newlands forest. the ways of identifying the Pinus Pinaster are as follows:

  • It grows to 25-30 meters tall.

  • The bark is thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top.

  • The bark is a rock like grey colour.

  • The needles are 25 cm long.

Acacia Saligna

Please look for any Acacia Saligna plants you can find. They are also known as Port Jackson Wattles.

Acacia Saligna plants can be identified by the following features:

  • Long leaves with a length to width ratio of 5-7

  • They are trees

  • They are 2-5 meters tall when fully grown

  • Juvenile trees have the following features:

    • They are smaller

    • They have two types of leaves

      • Long adult leaves

      • Small, plentiful leaves, with about 50 on a twig (resembling Jacaranda leaves).

What you can do

  1. First download the Epicollect5 app   android    ios

  2. Click on the "+add project" button and put in "TMNP Invasive Plant..."

  3. Click on "+Add Entry" and follow the prompts to add photo, location(the app will only log your location at the time you submit the entry and upload data and photos ),etc.
